The SPYBLOCK Act is back. It is likely that little has changed, but I don’t really care. Providing required consent provisions, mandatory uninstall procedures, and penalties for surreptitious installation and data collection, the bill makes some sense. Providing criminal penalties for “particularly egregious” actions doesn’t - I say throw the book at every spyware vendor, and reimburse me for the cost of the Apple Powerbook I was forced to purchase to avoid it.

Now if we could only figure out how to keep ChoicePoint from giving the data away to everyone who hands them a fake ID and a few bucks, we would be in business.
