Paperless voting insecurity deemed incurable
December 1st, 2006We’ve seen no shortage of debates on voting machines. Go the Oregon route, by mail. No, deal with the hanging chad. Screw you - it is all a conspiracy to steal elections. The debate will rage on.
Nevertheless, a recent report states that regardless of the route taken going forward the bottom line is - completely paperless voting is fraught with danger, and will remain so.
I still can’t figure out why election officials can’t just provide a receipt before you leave the booth.

Because, if you get a receipt, your vote can be bought or coerced. If you don’t have a receipt you can’t prove to the buyer that you voted the way he wanted you to vote, so he will not even try to rig the election. Thats why votes MUST be secret.
