Vigilante justice hits phishers

Everyone knows someone naive enough to click on a phishing lure, cough up their bank account number and mother’s maiden name, and wind up broke. Hackers are noo exception, so they are taking the law into their own hands.

According to Netcraft, sites purporting to be Paypal and NatWest have recently been hit with messages like “WARNING - THIS SITE IS A SCAM SITE.”

I must say I love their work, but I pitty their workload. With more than 6,000 phishing sites already identified using the Netcraft Toolbar, and gajillions more popping up every day, sending a weak message to phishers is about the best one can hope for.

Just what we need, complacency regarding phishing

I have recieved a half-dozen or so emails from colleagues, over the last two days, reporting phishing attempts. Some of these folks say they haven’t received many of these types of emails in the past, but now they are. So I have to ask what gives when I read that phishing attempts are on the decline.
