I used to love getting those little email postcards around the holidays, likely because it provided validation that at least one person liked me (which is still a hard thing to grasp). Now I realize that getting one of those things was actually a sign that someone DISLIKED me, and I feel relieved.
IT World reports that this little greetings can hide Trojan horse programs, as well as redirect you to well mocked-up sites that do. It seems the perps are getting better and better at faking these things for malicious purposes, thwarting firewalls and antivirus mechanisms by posing as IRC (internet relay chat) programs.
I suspect it won’t be long before they are using them in bonafide phishing attempt, now that hacking can really pay.
