Cyber-Monday, the first workday after the Thanksgiving weekend, is when folks head back into the office to do all their holiday shopping. There was a lot of buzz about it, and even a few reports of good vendor results. What is the reality?
According to a poll release by TRUSTe, roughly 2/3rds of online shoppers planned on limiting online purchases due to security threats.
I can’t opine on the statistical validity of this poll, but I can say I’ve seen as many or more security breaches happening at offline retailers (think DSW). The questions was posed a while back as to whether fraud threatens the foundations of the economy; if people are continuing to bet that online consumption is the wave of the future, and ecommerce security has consumers in a tizzy, I’d say online retailers have some serious PR problems on their hands.
