I pick on a lot of educational institutions for mucking up their data security. And I root for them when they make even meager attempts to guard all their staff and students’ names, addresses, mothers’ maiden names, and social security numbers. As the latest and greatest is right out my backdoor, I have to root again.
The University of Colorado – Springs Campus has their CS students participating in a hacking contest. The students will be competing against other schools – attempting to hack into their foes networks and steal data – all while guarding their own.
As Justin Gray, co-captain of the UCCS team said, “If you never try to exploit code, you’re probably not going to be very good at finding holes in it, either.”
Couldn’t have said it better myself. Everyone deserves the opportunity to become a hacker!
