Windows Defender beats up Norton

Some might think this is funny, but a lot of others are pissing and moaning. Windows anti-spyware’s latest beta release is deleting key portions of Norton Anti-Virus after identifying it as a password stealer. MS’s user group forum is filling up with complaints, some from sys admins it is reeking havoc on.

If you are a Linux admin, you probably have a little smirk on your face right now. Same goes for OS X’ers. If you are one of those who deployed the product throughout your office, well, nobody is going to feel sorry for you. And that is not because you are managing Windows machines – that likely wasn’t your decision. But injecting beta software into a production environment was, so you are just going to have to go without sleep for the next month while you manually repair all those registries.
