If we look at the recent past we’ll conclude that the fight against spam didn’t evolve, just the tools themselves: more aggressive filters, hardware appliances. Authentication schemes didn’t really take off. What we need is to redesign email. One that can solve current problems but that doesn’t change the current infrastructure and doesn’t require cooperation from everybody at once.
