Is internet anonymity good or bad?

There are probably a few Spamroll readers using anonymity tools (I know there are not many using Internet Explorer).

I wonder what people think of a debate between online anonymity and the right to free speech…?

I think a balance has to be struck. Absolute anonymity is at odds with the rights of third parties (e.g., defamation) and other substantive rules. The million dollar question is – what’s the apppropriate balance? I read the Public Citizen summary and I would guess on those facts anonymity loses.
