Homeward Bound Rescue puts out a calendar each year. It’s full of pups they take (or took) care of. Yep, it’s a shelter, and their dogs simply rock. I’ve gotten to know one of the lucky ones, over the last few years, and he’s a perfect example. But alas, I’m depressed – said friend of me and my own dog is now famous (well kinda), and we are hoping it doesn’t go to his head.
Here’s what he had to say:
My name is Boris. Yep, you heard right, Boris. I am what the shelter calls a great American mix. But I’m thinking I’m part red heeler based on my beautiful red and white coat. I honestly can’t remember how old I am anymore, anywhere from 10-12 is my best guess. While I enjoyed the great care and love that Sandy and the others at the shelter gave me, I was sure glad to bust out of that joint after a 5 year and 2 month stay! Five years was a long time for an old guy like me. I was sure ready for some beauty rest. My new family is a dream come true. I worship my Dad and I can always sucker Mom into giving me treats. I even like my little sister, Madi. She pesters me a lot to play with her but she’s sweet. We love to hunt squirrels in the backyard, scare the mailman, follow Mom and Dad around the house and wrestle. Sometimes I’ll even let Madi win. Have you heard about my new home though? It is awesome! There are 3 couches I can get on, and believe me, I take full advantage of all of them….everyday! My new family bought me this fancy big dog bed, but who needs that when you have a dreamy leather couch. My new family also takes me for car rides and walks all the time. While I like a good walk, a car ride is my favorite. It’s like laying on a moving couch with sights, smells and sounds coming right to you! I’ve been hiking, camping and snow shoeing and I still can’t believe this is my new life. Thank you Northwest Kansas Animal Shelter for everything you did for me and all my other buddies!
You too can help dogs like this. Even if you don’t have room in the house for a fine furry friend, you surely have room on your wall for one of these nifty calendars. Check the link above, or just send a check for $15, along with your return address, to: Homeward Bound Rescue, PO Box 88, Greeley, CO 80632.
My neighbors and I thank you for your support.
