The Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. Obamacare, distilled in two quotes

First, this

If you like your health care plan, you will be able to keep your health care plan. Period. No one will take it away. No matter what.

– President Barack Obama, June 15, 2009

And now, the introductory paragraph from a letter I just received…

Changes from health care reform (also called the Affordable Care Act or ACA) continue to take effect in 2014. To meet the requirements of the new laws, your current plan can no longer be continued beyond your 2014 renewal date.

– My soon-to-be-former insurance provider, September 10, 2013

I liked my plan. It worked for me. I’m not permanently parked on a sofa, nor do do I eat McDonalds eight days a week. I’ve had some bumps and bruises (and broken bones), but have gone to great lengths to make sure they do not bother me. The insurance I purchased actually worked for my provider too – the premiums were pure profit for them. Not a claim, prescription, or checkup – felt no need, even though much was provided for free (or nearly so) – in over nine years. And I didn’t care either, because I was getting peace of mind in return.

All for naught. I’ve now seen, front and center, what’s in the law, and I cannot say I am particularly impressed.

MG signing off (doubting I’m alone here either)
