Purse snatching back in vogue

It used to be you watched out for purse snatchers and pickpockets at the mall, and only around the shopping season. Now you get to worry about them when shopping online. An army of botnets is doing exactly that – snatching personal information while you are loading your virtual shopping cart.

First while banking, and now while picking up Mother’s Day flowers. Well at least its an excuse for forgetting (fear).

Having someone peer over your shoulder to catch your password as you typed never sounded so good.

Major newspapers deliver credit card numbers

Two major papers owned by the New York Times has made their morning deliveries wrapped in recycled credit card reports.

“Immediate steps have been taken internally at the Globe and Telegram & Gazette to increase security around credit card reporting,” Richard H. Gilman, publisher of the Boston Globe, said in a statement. I am sure that is giving 200,000 plus customers the warm fuzzies about now.

The papers have set up a hotline for any customer who wants to find out if they have been affected. I can hear it now…”No madam, you were not affected.” It might be easier, and more effective, if residents just started digging through their garbage.
